How is education a means to save one’s life?
By learning to read, write and to be educated is a way out of which you are to become something else not to be like other in the same situation. A poor Indian that can read can go to college can become more then his peers. One who choose not to read and learn may work hard all his life and really never have more than that.

What you wrote is true about those who chose not to read will have a harder time in life unlike those who chose to go to school and learn the needs of accomplishment. He pretty much taught himself to read and became a huge role model to many other Indian children who wanted to do the same.
ReplyDeleteGiven the potential education has to provide people with higher paying jobs, etc. Should a high-quality education be a right or a privilege? How do we define high-quality education? Also, how might people need to re-think the way we teach children and the way we inspire them to fulfill their potential? What if people don't think a student has potential? How might that belief limit that student's achievements?

“Should a high-quality education be a right or a privilege?” This is a great question; it even gave me an idea for next week’s essay. I had to think about it for a minute but I think that if a society wants to be advanced than a high-quality education should be a right.
ReplyDeleteTonya,
ReplyDeleteI agree that anyone who goes to college can achieve more than their peers. I also believe, as you do, that not being able to perform the basic function such as reading and writing will greatly reduce the job opportunities that can be offered. Higher education is almost not a choice anymore if you want to rise above minimum wage jobs.
